The Lakeside Centre Boat Launch in the Longlac Ward will be closed on Saturday, July 18th until 5:00 p.m. due to Summerfest activities taking place in the area.

The Municipality of Greenstone has received the latest wildfire update from the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

The wildfires near Greer and Nakina remain very well contained. Fire crews continue suppression efforts. Air attack resources were also utilized today to assist with suppression activities.

Fire intensity levels have decreased on both wildfires.

The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates from the Ministry of Natural Resources as they become available. Residents are reminded to stay clear of active fire areas and follow any direction provided by emergency personnel.

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone has passed By-Law No. 26-38 on July 13, 2026, under Section 34(18) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.P. 13.

The wildfires near Greer and Nakina remain contained. Fire crews continue suppression efforts on both fires.

There has been no increase in the size of either wildfire since the previous update.

The Municipality will continue to provide updates as information becomes available from the MNR.

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to monitor the wildfires closest to our communities in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). We will continue to be in contact with the MNR and will provide any updates through our communication channels.

The MNR has advised that committed fire crews remain assigned to both the wildfire nearest Nakina and the Greer Road wildfire. These fires continue to be actively actioned and remain a priority for suppression efforts.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Special Meeting scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. has been cancelled.

Take notice that a Special Meeting of Council has been called for Monday, July 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. The Meeting will be closed to the Public subject to subsection 239(2)(h) of the Municipal Act, 2001.

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to closely monitor the wildfire situation affecting the Nakina Ward.

Municipal Emergency Management staff are receiving regular updates from the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and remain in close communication with Emergency Management Ontario.

The wildfire remains a high priority for the MNR. Fire crews and aircraft continue suppression, and resources will remain on the fire until it is fully contained and extinguished. The MNR advises that the fire is responding well to suppression efforts.

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to monitor the evolving forest fire situation across Northwestern Ontario in coordination with our emergency management partners.

Remember, a Restricted Fire Zone is now in effect, meaning all open-air burning, including campfires, is prohibited.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by following the Municipality's official communication channels and trusted provincial sources for the latest updates.

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has announced that a Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) will be in effect for the Northwest Region and portions of the Northeast Region, including the Municipality of Greenstone, beginning Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. (local time).
