CEDI seeks to support First Nations and neighbouring municipalities to build respectful and equitable partnerships, and to develop capacity for long-term planning for joint community economic development and land use.

Following the recent announcement regarding the temporary closure of the Greenstone Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) - Longlac, the Municipality is pleased to advise that SALC programming continues for Longlac residents.
To ensure participants can continue enjoying programs and staying connected, virtual and in-person programs in Geraldton will be offered while the Municipality recruits a new SALC Coordinator for the Longlac Centre. Free transportation from Longlac will be provided for all in-person programs in Geraldton. Be sure to watch for the monthly SALC newsletters to stay up to date on upcoming activities and schedules!
The Municipality of Greenstone continues to invest in modern, reliable equipment with the delivery of several fleet assets approved through the 2026 Municipal Capital Budget.

Street Sweeper
The Combination Plow remains on order and is expected to be delivered by the end of August.
The Municipality of Greenstone would like to advise all participants of the Greenstone Seniors Active Living Centre - Geraldton (SALC) that, due to ongoing construction at the Geraldton Community Centre, the front entrance is temporarily closed. During construction, all SALC participants are required to use the west entrance to access the facility.
The Municipality of Greenstone advises residents that the Greenstone Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) - Longlac will be temporarily closed effective Monday, July 27, 2026, until a new SALC Coordinator has been recruited. The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce the installation of accessible beach mats at three municipal beaches, improving access to waterfront recreation for residents and visitors of all abilities. This project was approved by Council through the Municipality's 2026 Capital Budget and is funded through the 2025 - 2026 Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant.
The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce the restoration of the iconic Beardmore Snowman, helping preserve one of the community's most recognizable landmarks. Approved by Council through the 2026 Municipal Capital Budget, the project was also supported through 50% funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), demonstrating a shared commitment to preserving important community assets. Construction is scheduled to begin on July 22.
The Municipality of Greenstone continues to invest in reliable emergency services with the addition of four new fire apparatus to its fleet.
Earlier this year, a new tanker, funded through the Municipality's 2025 Capital Budget, was received and placed into service in April. The Municipality has now also taken delivery of three new pumper/tanker fire trucks, funded through the 2026 Capital Budget. Together, these investments represent a significant step forward in modernizing Greenstone's fire fleet and ensuring firefighters have the equipment they need to respond safely and effectively across the municipality.
The new fire apparatus will be strategically placed at fire stations throughout Greenstone, ensuring reliable emergency response capabilities across the Municipality's large geographic area while replacing aging equipment.
The Municipality of Greenstone has received the latest wildfire update from the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).
The wildfires near Greer and Nakina remain very well contained. Fire crews continue suppression efforts. Air attack resources were also utilized today to assist with suppression activities.
Fire intensity levels have decreased on both wildfires.
The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates from the Ministry of Natural Resources as they become available. Residents are reminded to stay clear of active fire areas and follow any direction provided by emergency personnel.
