Geraldton Main Street Rehabilitation Project

The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce the start of the Geraldton Main Street Rehabilitation Project in the Geraldton Ward.

This important infrastructure project will include improvements to sections of Main Street and will involve roadway reconstruction, underground infrastructure upgrades, drainage improvements, sidewalk and curb work, and surface restoration. The project is intended to improve the long-term condition, safety, and functionality of the downtown corridor for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Construction activities will begin shortly and will continue throughout the construction season. During this time, residents and motorists can expect temporary traffic disruptions, lane restrictions, reduced parking availability, and periodic road closures within the project area.

Beginning the week of May 25th the contractor will be approaching affected residents and occupants regarding the connection of a Temporary Water System that will need to be installed in preparation of the upcoming construction.

The Municipality is committed to keeping the public informed throughout the duration of the project.

June 15, 2026 UPDATE

Residents are advised that the area east of the Municipal Boat Launch is being used as a temporary laydown area for construction materials related to the Geraldton Main Street Rehabilitation Project.

The Municipal Boat Launch will remain open and fully operational throughout construction. However, increased truck traffic, equipment movement, and material storage activities will be occurring in the area.

For safety reasons, residents and visitors are asked to avoid the laydown area and stay clear of any construction materials, equipment, and designated work zones.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to complete this important infrastructure project.

June 12, 2026 UPDATE

Residents may notice a drilling rig operating within the construction area over the coming days.

The drilling equipment is being used to install well points, which are part of the temporary dewatering system required for underground infrastructure work. The well points help lower the groundwater level, creating safer and drier conditions for the installation of water, sewer, and storm infrastructure.

This work is an important step in preparing the construction area before excavation and pipe installation begins.

Please use caution when travelling near the work area, follow all signage and traffic control measures, and stay clear of construction equipment.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as work continues on the Geraldton Main Street Rehabilitation Project.

June 11, 2026 UPDATE

Temporary traffic lights are now in place within the construction zone to safely manage one-lane traffic through active work areas.

As construction progresses along Main Street, the traffic lights will be relocated as needed to follow the active work zone. Please pay close attention to all signage, barriers, and traffic control devices, as traffic patterns will change throughout the project.

The temporary traffic lights are currently set with an approximate 3-minute cycle time. Motorists are asked to remain patient and obey all traffic signals.

If you are exiting a driveway or side street located between the traffic lights:

  • Wait until traffic is moving in the direction you wish to travel.
  • Safely merge with the flow of traffic.
  • If there is no traffic moving in either direction, wait until a traffic flow has been established before entering the roadway.
  • Do not travel against the flow of traffic within the construction zone.

Please reduce your speed, stay alert, and watch for construction workers, equipment, pedestrians, and changing road conditions.

The Municipality thanks residents, businesses, and visitors for their patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure project moves forward.

June 4, 2026 UPDATE

Residents in the construction area may be contacted by representatives from Englobe Engineering to arrange a pre-construction building survey.

The purpose of the survey is to document any existing conditions within or around a property, such as cracked drywall, foundation cracks, or damaged windows, before construction activities begin. These surveys help establish a record of pre-existing conditions and provide a point of reference should any concerns arise during construction.

Participation is voluntary; however, property owners are encouraged to take part in the survey for their benefit and peace of mind. If your property has been identified for a survey, a representative from Englobe Engineering will contact you directly.

Thank you for your cooperation as we move forward with this important infrastructure project.

June 1, 2026 UPDATE

Residents and motorists are advised that crews will be digging test holes and excavation areas at specific locations along Main Street as part of upcoming construction activities.

Please travel with caution and be aware of all posted signage, traffic control devices, and safety barriers in the work zone. This reminder applies to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Your patience and cooperation help keep everyone safe while this important infrastructure project moves forward.

May 26, 2026 UPDATE

Contractors are preparing to begin work on the Geraldton Main Street Rehabilitation Project.

The work zone currently covers the area from south of the Municipal Administration Building through to Benner Avenue, with the initial phase of construction focusing on the section from Edith Avenue northward to Queen Avenue.

Construction activities will progress northward in approximately 200–300 metre sections to help minimize disruptions to residents, businesses, and traffic.

Over the next 7–10 days, residents can expect to see:

  • Installation of project signage and traffic control measures
  • Installation and commissioning of the temporary water system that will provide potable water service to affected properties during construction
  • Installation of a dewatering system used to lower the water table during underground infrastructure work such as piping installation

The dewatering system will be installed in a manner that minimizes impacts to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Equipment and construction materials will continue arriving in Geraldton over the coming weeks, with construction expected to continue throughout the summer and into late fall.

Residents directly affected by temporary service interruptions or alternate water hookups will be contacted directly by the contractor in advance.

The Municipality thanks residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation as these important infrastructure improvements move forward.
