Residents are advised that blasting operations will begin today and are expected to continue for approximately one week. Up to three blasts per day are anticipated. Motorists should expect additional traffic delays and temporary two-way lane closures during blast operations.
Residents are advised that the work zone is being extended further north to accommodate blasting operations and asphalt removal. As a result, Queen Ave in the Geraldton Ward will be closed at Main St. Local traffic may access Queen Ave via East St.
Residents are advised that blasting activities may begin as early as today and will continue periodically over the next few weeks as part of the ongoing Main Street construction project.
Construction crews are removing asphalt within the fenced work area on Main Street.
During this work, traffic will be temporarily shifted onto the boulevard for a short section of the roadway. Please follow all posted signs, traffic signals, and directions from traffic control personnel.
Residents are advised that test holes to determine bedrock depth will be being drilled on Main Street North of the current construction zone. Flaggers will be in place to guide traffic.
Please use caution when travelling through active construction zones and remain within the designated travel routes. Please respect all posted signs, barriers, and traffic control devices.
Residents are advised that the area east of the Municipal Boat Launch is being used as a temporary laydown area for construction materials related to the Geraldton Main Street Rehabilitation Project. The Municipal Boat Launch will remain open and fully operational throughout construction.
Residents may notice a drilling rig operating within the construction area over the coming days.
The drilling equipment is being used to install well points, which are part of the temporary dewatering system required for underground infrastructure work. The well points help lower the groundwater level, creating safer and drier conditions for the installation of water, sewer, and storm infrastructure.
Temporary traffic lights are now in place within the construction zone to safely manage one-lane traffic through active work areas. As construction progresses, the traffic lights will be relocated as needed to follow the active work zone. Please pay close attention to all signage, barriers, and traffic control devices, as traffic patterns will change throughout the project. The temporary traffic lights are currently set with an approx. 3min cycle time. Drivers exiting driveways or side streets located between the traffic lights should wait for traffic moving in their desired direction, merge safely when possible, and never drive against the flow of traffic.
