Representatives from the Municipality of Greenstone attended the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, meeting with several key provincial ministers to advocate for local priorities and highlight issues of importance to the community.

Greenstone officials had delegations with:

  • Hon. Kevin Holland, Minister of Forestry and Forest Products
  • Hydro One
  • Hon. Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Hon. Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure
  • Hon. Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation

During these discussions, municipal representatives emphasized the challenges of maintaining critical services and infrastructure with a limited tax base, the importance of sustainable forestry and resource development, and the need for transportation infrastructure improvements.

Stronger Partnerships for the North

Mayor Jamie McPherson stated, “Our meetings with provincial ministers and Hydro One were an important opportunity to ensure that the needs of Greenstone are heard at the highest levels. We face unique challenges as a northern and rural municipality, and we will continue to advocate for investments and policies that support the well-being of our residents. As an amalgamated municipality that, by landmass, is one of the largest in Ontario but with a relatively small population, our circumstances are distinct — and it is essential that provincial policies and funding reflect those realities.”
