Surrounded by the expansive Boreal Forest, the Municipality of Greenstone offers an outdoor escape that drives its key industries and supports the quality of life for residents and visitors. With rich forests and untouched lakes and river systems teeming with fish and wildlife, this natural rugged hotspot attracts outdoor enthusiasts from near and far. This municipality boasts a bi-lingual population with residents who have French either as their first or second language.

Location

Located within the District of Thunder Bay, Greenstone is known to be one of the largest municipalities in Canada, spanning across 3,172 square kilometres. Its prime location along the Trans-Canada Highway 11 provides direct transit for all businesses and travellers.

Wards and First Nations

Greenstone has wards located along the highway that include Beardmore, Geraldton and Longlac. The Nakina Ward branches out to the northern boundary. The Rural West Ward includes Jellicoe, MacDiarmid, Orient Bay and rural properties located to the west of Geraldton, and the Rural East Ward includes Caramat and rural properties located to the East of Geraldton.

Many First Nations thrive and coexist within the Municipality, including Animbigoo Zaagi’igan Anishinaabek First Nation, Aroland First Nation, Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation, Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation, Ginoogaming First Nation and Long Lake #58 First Nation just situated outside of its boundaries.
