As part of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), you will need a building permit before you begin your next building or renovation project in the Municipality of Greenstone. As outlined in our Building By-law 01-58, permits help keep our community safe with set standards for health, fire and structure safety.
It is illegal to start work without a building permit.
Before you start building
Find out about the zoning of your property.
To make sure it is safe to dig for your project, you must contact Ontario One Call to locate any buried cables, pipes and wires.
Apply for a building permit
Please complete the Building Permit Application and submit it along with supporting documents by email or mail or drop it off to:

If mailing your application, please pay by a cheque addressed to the Municipality of Greenstone. If you are paying in person, you can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit. |
Approval
You will receive a phone call or email once a building permit has been issued for your project.

To book a building inspection contact us by phone or email. You'll need to provide the:
- Building permit number and site address
- Type of inspection
- Site contact name and phone number
If you need electrical installation, repair or replacement work, please connect with the Electrical Safety Authority for required applications.
