By-Law 09-48 and recent communications included measurements in gallons. To align with current Canadian standards, all measurements will be enforced in metric units. Collection staff must be able to lift cans for dumping to minimize waste handling for their health and safety.

Acceptable Garbage Can:

  • Maximum capacity of 175 litres
  • Maximum filled weight of 23 kilograms
  • Metal or plastic container made of durable rust-proof material capable of withstanding freezing temperatures
  • Having a tapered larger top than at the bottom
  • Equipped with suitable handles for lifting, carrying and dumping
  • Lids must be tight fitting, easily removable and in position at all times

GARBAGE CAN RESTRICTIONS ARE BEING ACTIVELY ENFORCED!

Garbage that does not meet requirements or poses a risk to staff's health and safety will be tagged and will not be collected.

For complete rules and regulations, refer to By-Law 09-48, the Garbage and Recycling page, or pick up a paper copy at any Municipal Ward Office.
