Notice of Nomination for Office

2026 Municipal and School Board Elections

NOTICE is hereby given to the electors of the Municipality of Greenstone that Nomination forms may be filed starting Friday, May 1, 2026 for the following offices:

Municipal Council:

  • Mayor – One (1) to be elected at large
  • Councillor, Rural West Ward – One (1) to be elected
  • Councillor, Geraldton Ward – Two (2) to be elected
  • Councillor, Longlac Ward – Two (2) to be elected
  • Councillor, Beardmore Ward – One (1) to be elected
  • Councillor, Nakina Ward – One (1) to be elected
  • Councillor, Rural East Ward – One (1) to be elected

School Boards Trustees:

Superior-Greenstone District School Board, English Language Public Trustee

  • Two (2) to be elected by supporters from all Wards

Superior North Catholic District School Board, English Language Separate Trustee

  • One (1) to be elected by supporters from Rural West, Geraldton, Beardmore and Nakina Wards
  • One (1) to be elected by supporters from Longlac and Rural East Wards

Conseil Scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, French Language Public Trustee

  • One (1) to be elected by supporters from Greenstone, and other areas (City of Thunder Bay Clerk is responsible for conducting this election)

Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique des Aurores Boréales, French Language Separate Trustee

  • Two (2) to be elected by supporters from Rural West, Geraldton, Beardmore and Nakina Wards
  • One (1) to be elected by supporters from Rural East and Longlac Wards

Nomination forms may be filed in person at the Greenstone Administration Office located at 1800 Main Street, Geraldton, accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee of $200 for the Mayor and $100 for all other offices, payable by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order. Candidates will be required to provide proof of identity, Declaration of Qualifications, and consent to release personal information. Only forms with original signatures will be accepted.

Nominations for the positions as outlined above will be received by the Clerk or Deputy Clerk of the Municipality of Greenstone by appointment commencing Friday May 1, 2026. Walk-in service cannot be guaranteed at all times during the Nomination Period; therefore, scheduling an appointment to file nomination papers is strongly recommended. The deadline to file a nomination is on Nomination Day, Friday August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. After this date, nominations for all offices will close.

If there are not enough certified candidates to fill the positions, nominations will reopen only for the vacant roles on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Registration for Third-Party Advertisers begins on May 1, 2026, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

Voting Day is Monday, October 26, 2026.
