New Filters Being Installed at the Longlac Water Treatment Plant

The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce that installation of new filters at the Longlac Water Treatment Plant is now underway.

This project is part of the Rehabilitation of the Longlac Water Treatment Plant, supported through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) – Green Infrastructure Funding Stream, with up to $1.79 million in combined federal and provincial funding. The total project cost is approximately $2.4 million.

The plant's two existing filters have been in service for approximately 50 years. Constructed from regular steel, they have required ongoing maintenance due to corrosion, experienced multiple failures, and are based on an older, less efficient design.

While the installation phase is now visible, project planning and preparatory work have been ongoing for more than a year to ensure the successful replacement of this critical infrastructure.

The new stainless-steel filters will provide improved efficiency, reliability, and durability, with an expected service life of more than 50 years.

Filter #1 is currently being installed. Once it is operational, work will begin on replacing Filter #2. This phased approach allows the plant to continue providing safe, reliable drinking water throughout construction.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2026 and will help ensure the Longlac Water Treatment Plant continues to serve residents for decades to come.
