National Indigenous Peoples Day - June 21, 2026
National Indigenous Peoples Day is an official day of celebration to recognize and honour the heritage, cultures, and valuable contributions to society by First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples. National Indigenous Peoples Day is the same day as the summer solstice, June 21 (the longest day of the year), and was chosen for its important symbolism to many Indigenous Peoples.
On Thursday, June 18, 2026, a celebration organized by the Thunderbird Friendship Centre, with contributions from many community partners, will be held on the grounds of the Municipal Administration Office in Geraldton (1800 Main Street).
On Friday, June 19, 2026, a celebration jointly organized by Ginoogaming First Nation & Long Lake #58 First Nation will be held at the Ginoogaming Pow-Wow Grounds. The evening will conclude with an exciting Drone Show at 11:00 p.m., followed by fireworks. Everyone is welcome to attend.
