The Truth and Reconciliation Commission asked the Canadian government to investigate these cases. This is known as Call to Action 41.

In 2016, the government started the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. They held 15 meetings across the country and talked to 2,386 people.

In 2019, the Inquiry shared a final report with 231 Calls for Justice - important steps to help stop the violence and change the systems that have hurt Indigenous people.

They also made a guide called "Their Voices Will Guide Us". It helps teachers bring the voices and stories of Indigenous women and girls into the classroom. It teaches students to care, understand, and learn in a respectful and safe way.
