Four New Fire Trucks Strengthen Emergency Response Across Greenstone

Capital Projects Update

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to invest in reliable emergency services with the addition of four new fire apparatus to its fleet.

Earlier this year, a new tanker, funded through the Municipality's 2025 Capital Budget, was received and placed into service in April. The Municipality has now also taken delivery of three new pumper/tanker fire trucks, funded through the 2026 Capital Budget. Together, these investments represent a significant step forward in modernizing Greenstone's fire fleet and ensuring firefighters have the equipment they need to respond safely and effectively across the municipality.

The new fire apparatus will be strategically placed at fire stations throughout Greenstone, ensuring reliable emergency response capabilities across the Municipality's large geographic area while replacing aging equipment.

Pumper/tanker fire trucks are specially designed to provide both fire suppression and water transport, making them ideally suited for Greenstone's many communities where fire hydrants are not available. These versatile vehicles carry a large supply of water directly to emergency scenes while providing powerful pumping capabilities to support firefighting operations.

The new apparatus provide several important benefits, including:

  • Increased water capacity for rural and non-hydranted areas.
  • Faster and more effective fire suppression capabilities.
  • Improved firefighter safety through modern equipment and safety features.
  • Greater reliability with reduced maintenance requirements and less downtime.
  • Enhanced flexibility to respond to structure fires, wildland fires, motor vehicle collisions, and other emergency incidents.

These investments also support the recommendations outlined in the Municipality's Fire Master Plan, which identifies the need for a strategic, long-term approach to replacing fire apparatus and maintaining effective emergency response services. Replacing vehicles on a planned lifecycle improves operational readiness, reduces long-term maintenance costs, and helps ensure the Municipality continues to provide dependable emergency services for years to come.

The new pumper/tankers will be placed into service following final equipment installation, inspections, and firefighter training, while the tanker delivered in April is already operational and serving the community.

By investing in modern fire apparatus through its annual capital budgets, the Municipality is building a safer, stronger, and more resilient Greenstone for current and future generations.
