Capital Project Update - New Accessible Beach Mats Installed Across Greenstone
The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce the installation of accessible beach mats at three municipal beaches, improving access to waterfront recreation for residents and visitors of all abilities.
This project was approved by Council through the Municipality's 2026 Capital Budget and is funded through the 2025 - 2026 Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant.
The new accessible beach mats have been installed at:
- Municipal Administration Office Beach - Geraldton
- Poplar Lodge Park Beach - Beardmore
- Cordingley Lake Beach - Nakina
The accessible beach mats provide a firm, stable surface over the sand, making it easier for individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, and other mobility aids to access the beach and enjoy the shoreline. The project reflects the Municipality's ongoing commitment to creating more inclusive public spaces and removing barriers to participation in outdoor recreation.
As this is the first year the beach mats have been installed, the Municipality will be monitoring their performance throughout the season. Adjustments to their placement or installation may be made as needed to improve accessibility, accommodate changing beach conditions, and enhance the overall user experience. Feedback from residents and visitors will also help inform future improvements.
By investing in accessible infrastructure, the Municipality is helping ensure that more residents and visitors can enjoy Greenstone's natural amenities while promoting equity, inclusion, and community well-being.
