Capital Project Update – Beardmore Snowman Restoration

The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce the restoration of the iconic Beardmore Snowman, helping preserve one of the community's most recognizable landmarks.

Approved by Council through the 2026 Municipal Capital Budget, the project was also supported through 50% funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), demonstrating a shared commitment to preserving important community assets. Construction is scheduled to begin on July 22.

The project includes repairs to both the structure and appearance of the Snowman, ensuring it remains a welcoming symbol for residents and visitors alike.

As part of the restoration, the Snowman will be clad and sprayed with polyurea, a durable, high-performance material selected to help protect the structure for years to come. Polyurea offer excellent resistance to moisture, impacts, UV exposure, and the extreme temperature fluctuations experienced in Northwestern Ontario. Their durable finish helps reduce ongoing maintenance requirements while maintaining the Snowman's appearance, ensuring this community landmark remains an attractive feature for residents and visitors well into the future.

The restoration is being undertaken to extend the life of the landmark, improve its overall condition, and preserve an important feature that reflects the character and identity of the Beardmore community. Investing in community landmarks is an important part of preserving Greenstone's history while enhancing the appearance of our public spaces.
