Capital Project Update - Beardmore Snowman Restoration Nearly Complete

The Municipality of Greenstone is pleased to announce that the Beardmore Snowman Restoration Project is nearly 100% complete, with only a few minor touch-ups remaining before the project is fully finished.

Approved by Council through the 2026 Municipal Capital Budget, the project was supported with 50% funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).

The rehabilitation included repairs and improvements to both the structure and exterior appearance of the Snowman. The existing structure and steel components were prepared and refinished, deteriorated materials were repaired or replaced, and the Snowman received a new protective exterior coating. The restoration also included work on his familiar features, including his sunglasses, buttons, hat and face.

The Snowman’s iconic fishing rod and curling broom accessories will also continue to be used, ensuring the restored landmark retains the familiar character that generations of residents and travelers along Highway 11 have come to recognize.

The restoration will help extend the life of the landmark, reduce future maintenance needs, improve its overall condition, and preserve an important symbol of Beardmore’s identity and history.

The Municipality thanks everyone involved in giving this unique community landmark a well-deserved refresh.

Freshly restored and with his fishing rod and curling broom close at hand, the Beardmore Snowman is ready to continue welcoming residents and visitors along Highway 11 for many years to come.
