2026 Franco-Ontarian Day

WHEREAS by the virtue of the Franco-Ontarian Day Act, which was legislated on April 26th, 2010, it is declared that September 25th of each year be recognized as Franco-Ontarian Day throughout the province of Ontario; and

WHEREAS September 25th is the anniversary of the first raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag and it represents over 400 years of French presence in Ontario; and 

WHEREAS there are more than 745,000 Francophones in Ontario, the largest Francophone community outside of Quebec; and 

WHEREAS Franco-Ontarian Day has become an annual occasion to celebrate the Francophone community; 

NOW THEREFORE Council of the Municipality of Greenstone, do hereby proclaim September 25th of each year as Franco-Ontarian Day and join the Francophone community of Greenstone in celebrating its exceptional contribution to Ontario's growth and prosperity.

The Municipality of Greenstone will join communities across Ontario in recognizing Franco-Ontarian Day by raising the Franco-Ontarian flag. This flag raising is in recognition of Franco-Ontarian Day on September 25, which honours the history, culture, and contributions of Franco-Ontarians to our community and province.

The flag will be raised at the Greenstone Administration Office on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in accordance with the Municipality of Greenstone's Flag Policy. The policy provides guidance on the display of flags at municipal facilities to ensure recognition is given in a respectful, consistent, and inclusive manner.
