Greenstone Raises Flag to Mark Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

The Municipality of Greenstone will raise the Alzheimer's Awareness flag at the the Municipal Administration Office on January 5th, 2026, in accordance with the Municipality of Greenstone’s Flag Policy. This policy provides guidance on the display of flags at municipal facilities to ensure recognition is given in a respectful, consistent, and inclusive manner.

This flag raising is in recognition of Alzheimer's Awareness Month and to show support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as their families, caregivers, and healthcare workers.

Alzheimer’s Awareness Month is observed each year in January to increase public understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, reduce stigma, and encourage early diagnosis, research, and community support. The disease affects hundreds of thousands of Canadians and has a profound impact not only on those diagnosed, but also on their loved ones and caregivers.

The raising of the Alzheimer’s Awareness flag symbolizes solidarity with those affected and serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, education, and advocacy. By recognizing this month, the Municipality of Greenstone aims to foster awareness about the challenges of living with dementia and to highlight the need for continued research and support services.
