Municipality of Greenstone Welcomes Greenstone Transmission Line Announcement

The Municipality of Greenstone welcomes today’s announcement by the Province of Ontario designating the Greenstone Transmission Line as a priority project - an important investment that will strengthen power reliability and support long-term economic growth across the region.

The Municipality congratulates Animbiigoo Zaagi-igan Anishinaabek First Nation, Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaaek First Nation, Bingwi Neyaashi Anishnaabek First Nation, Long Lake 58 First Nation, Ginoogaming First Nation,  Red Rock Indian Band, and Aroland First Nation for their leadership and partnership in advancing this project. Their involvement reflects meaningful progress toward economic reconciliation, with Indigenous communities playing a central role in ownership and decision-making.

Mayor McPherson attended the announcement and highlighted the significance of the project for Greenstone: “The Municipality of Greenstone welcomes today’s announcement and the province’s continued investment in critical infrastructure across the North. Reliable transmission is essential to our residents’ health and safety, building strong communities, and creating long-term opportunities for workers and businesses in our region. This project also reflects the importance of partnership, with Indigenous communities playing a leadership role and sharing in the benefits. We look forward to working with Ontario, First Nations, and industry to ensure this investment delivers lasting value for Northern Ontario.”

The Municipality of Greenstone has supported the development of the Greenstone Transmission Line over many years, recognizing its importance to community safety, economic development, and regional growth. The Municipality will continue to work collaboratively with Indigenous partners, the Province of Ontario, and industry as the project advances.

The Greenstone Transmission Line will improve electricity reliability for residents and businesses while enabling increased economic development, including mining and related industries. This investment positions Greenstone to support future growth, job creation, and a more resilient energy system.

The Municipality thanks the Government of Ontario for its continued commitment to northern infrastructure and looks forward to working with all partners as the project moves forward.
