Significant Weather Event Declared – Service Impacts

Friday, December 19 - UPDATE

The Significant Weather Event continues and all closures remain in place today.
Staff are still working diligently to get roads cleared. The patience and understanding of residents is greatly appreciated as we navigate this storm. Please use caution if you must go out.

In addition to the closures of the Daycares, Seniors Active Living Centres and Arenas, the Nakina Ward Office will also be closed for the day.

Given the current weather conditions being experienced throughout much of Greenstone, the Municipality has declared a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Policy 23-82.

As a result:

  • Daycares

  • Seniors Active Living Centres

  • Municipal Arenas

will be closed today.

A Significant Weather Event is declared when severe weather conditions pose a risk to public safety and make it difficult for road maintenance operations to meet normal service standards. During this time, response times for road maintenance may be longer than usual as crews work through challenging conditions.

Public Works staff are working diligently to clear roads as safely and efficiently as possible. Please expect delays in road clearing, particularly in rural areas, due to ongoing weather conditions and highway closures that may temporarily limit access for plows. Crews will continue working throughout the day to clear and maintain roads to the best of their ability.

Garbage collection will still occur today, however residents should expect possible delays.

The Municipality thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during this weather event and encourages everyone to travel only if necessary and to exercise caution.
