Greenstone Welcomes Planned Ontario Northland Bus Service
GREENSTONE, ON — The Municipality of Greenstone welcomes news that Ontario Northland plans to provide scheduled bus service east and west from Greenstone. The service will provide residents, including seniors, with a safe, reliable transportation option and strengthen connections with communities across Northern Ontario.
The news follows sustained advocacy during the 2022–2026 Council term. Council formally directed the Municipality to lobby Ontario Northland for service in the Greenstone area on June 26, 2023, as part of its review of seniors’ transportation. The Mayor and Council have continued to press for improved regional transportation options for residents.
“Council and I have continued to make the case for better bus connections because we know how much they matter to our residents. Having a safe, reliable way to travel east and west will make a real difference, especially for seniors who need to get to appointments or visit family. We thank Ontario Northland and the Province for listening to Greenstone and working to address this need,” said Mayor Jamie McPherson.
For seniors and other residents who do not drive or have access to a vehicle, scheduled bus service can support greater independence and make it easier to access services outside the municipality. It can also reduce reliance on family members and friends to arrange long trips, while helping residents stay connected to loved ones.
The Municipality looks forward to the Government of Ontario’s formal announcement, including the confirmed schedule and service details.
