Greenstone Awaiting Confirmation on Curbside Recycling Program Start Date
The Municipality of Greenstone has not yet received a confirmed start date for the implementation of Ontario’s new curbside recycling program in Greenstone, despite earlier public messaging that regional and northern communities would transition by January 1, 2026.
Throughout 2025, the Municipality worked cooperatively with Circular Materials on communications and operational planning and sought clarification on Greenstone’s implementation timeline. As of today, no start date has been provided.
The Municipality wishes to clearly state that this is not a municipal program. The curbside recycling system is a producer-led, provincially mandated program administered by Circular Materials, and municipalities are not responsible for program timelines or public communications.
“Residents are understandably looking for answers, and we share their frustration,” said Mayor Jamie McPherson. “While we recognize the complexity of implementing a province-wide program, it is disappointing that a start date for Greenstone has not yet been communicated. We will continue to seek clarification so residents can receive accurate direction.”
The Municipality reiterates that all questions regarding the curbside recycling program should be directed to Circular Materials, as they are responsible for program delivery and public communication.
