Construction at Geraldton Community Centre
The Municipality of Greenstone would like to advise residents that construction will soon begin at the Geraldton Community Centre. During this period, access to certain areas of the facility will be limited over the coming months.
The Greenstone Seniors Active Living Centre is planned to remain open throughout construction. If a closure becomes absolutely necessary, advance notification will be provided. Visitors are asked to follow posted signage and directions while work is underway.
Further details, including timelines and specific impacts, will be shared once a firm construction schedule is confirmed.
This project is supported by a $749,050 investment from the Ontario government through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), contributing to a larger $1.5 million renovation initiative. This significant investment will modernize and enhance the Community Centre, ensuring it continues to serve residents of Greenstone and the surrounding area for years to come.
Planned upgrades include the installation of new energy-efficient LED lighting to improve visibility, safety, and reduce long-term operating costs. A new accessible main entrance will also be constructed, creating a safer and more welcoming experience for all users.
Additional improvements include new arena boards to enhance safety for athletes and support local hockey, skating programs, tournaments, and community events. Other interior and infrastructure upgrades will help ensure the facility remains functional, inclusive, and energy efficient.
The Municipality appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during this important improvement project.
