Brush Cutting and Vegetation Control Project
Firesmart Community Implementation Grants Program (FCGP) 2024-2025
What is this project?
The Municipality of Greenstone, with provincial funding through Firesmart Community Implementation Grants Program (FCGP) 2024-2025 is reducing vegetation in key areas to lower wildfire risk. Using FireSmart principles, this work helps create defensible space, slow fire spread, and reduce available fuel in the wildland-urban interface.
Where is it happening?
Work will take place on municipal property in Caramat, Jellicoe, and Geraldton. Future funding may allow similar projects in other Greenstone communities. Most project areas follow existing roads and trails. Locations were selected to balance public safety benefits with the preservation of the area’s natural character.
What will residents see?
From now until March 2026, crews and machinery will be cutting, processing, and chipping vegetation. Smaller material will decompose naturally on site; some larger tree sections may remain.
Safety Reminder
Please stay clear of active work zones. Hazards include moving equipment and falling trees. Do not approach machinery, and ensure operators can see you if you must pass nearby. Traffic control may be in place - follow all directions from on-site personnel.
