Household Hazardous Waste Collection
The Municipality of Greenstone seasonally operates a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot at the Longlac landfill site. The depot is open in the summer months during regular landfill operating hours.
The depot will open as of June 2, 2026.
Please keep labels on products being disposed intact.
2026 HHW COLLECTION EVENT DATES
📍Thursday, September 24, 2026 - 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Geraldton Public Works Yard (210 First Avenue NW)
📍Friday, September 25, 2026 - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Longlac Landfill Site (Crib Road via Blueberry Road)
Accepted waste
Please ensure all materials are clearly identifiable and have their original product labels intact. Acceptable materials include:
- Antifreeze
- Fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides
- Fluorescent light bulbs and tubes
- Paints and coatings
- Fuel and motor oil containers that have a capacity of 30 litres or less, and used oil filters
- Household cleaners
- Pressurized containers (aerosol, propane tanks, fire extinguishers)
- Single-use dry cell batteries
- Solvents and adhesives
- Pool chemicals
- Mercury switches and thermometers
*Household cooking oil will also be accepted in sealed, labelled containers. Never pour cooking oil down the sink, as it can cause sewer or septic system blockages!
Please note:
- Materials cannot be dropped off in advance at the Geraldton Public Works Yard. GFL Environmental must be there to accept this hazardous material on site.
- Residents are encouraged to begin setting aside materials in preparation for the event.
- Ensure materials are identifiable with product labels intact.
- Commercial or industrial hazardous waste will not be accepted.
