2026 Municipal Election

Municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Monday in October to elect the Mayor and Council of the Municipality of Greenstone. The next Municipal Election will take place on October 26, 2026. The current term of office ends on November 14, 2026. 

Key Dates

  • May 1, 2026 - Nominations Open
  • May 1, 2026 - Third-Party Registration period begins
  • August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. - Nominations Close
  • August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. - Last Day to Withdraw Candidacy
  • August 24, 2026 - Candidates Certified
  • October 23, 2026 - Third Party Registration period ends
  • October 26, 2026 - Election Day
  • November 16, 2026 - Inaugural Meeting
  • March 26, 2027 - Deadline for filing Financial Statement and Auditor's Report

Municipal Election Procedures

The Clerk, pursuant to section 42(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 is required to develop procedures and forms and provide a copy of the procedures and forms to each candidate when his or her nomination is filed, or by June 1 in the year of an election. 

Accessibility

The Municipality of Greenstone is committed to ensuring that elections are accessible to everyone. Measures to ensure equal opportunity for all electors and candidates include:

  • That persons with disabilities are able to independently cast their vote and verify their selection.
  • That persons with disabilities have full and equal access to all information on where and when to vote and on eligible candidates.
  • That persons with disabilities can fully participate in the Municipal Election as an elector, candidate, or election official.
  • That efforts are made to ensure that electors with disabilities are aware of the accessibility measures available via channels such as the newspaper, media launches, the Municipality of Greenstone website and social media.
  • That all Voter Help Centres are accessible.
