Ministry of Natural Resources Implements Restricted Fire Zone
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has announced that a Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) will be in effect for the Northwest Region and portions of the Northeast Region, including the Municipality of Greenstone, beginning Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. (local time).
The Restricted Fire Zone has been implemented due to high to extreme fire hazard conditions, increased wildland fire activity, and current fire load, with the goal of reducing the risk of human-caused wildland fires.
What This Means
While the Restricted Fire Zone is in effect:
- All open-air burning is prohibited.
- Campfires are not permitted.
- No one may conduct outdoor burning until the Restricted Fire Zone has been lifted by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The MNR is asking all residents and visitors to respect these restrictions to help protect people, communities, and Ontario's forests during this period of elevated wildfire risk.
Greenstone Fire Ban Remains in Effect
This provincial action follows the Municipality of Greenstone's Fire Ban, which came into effect on July 12 after most of the municipality reached extreme fire hazard conditions.
The Municipal Fire Ban remains in place and continues to:
- Suspend all burn permits.
- Prohibit all open-air burning, including at campgrounds.
- Prohibit the discharge of fireworks within the Municipality.
The Provincial Restricted Fire Zone reinforces these existing local restrictions and reflects the seriousness of the current wildfire conditions across the region.
Report Wildfires
- Within a community: Call 911.
- Outside of communities (forest fires): Call 310-FIRE (3473).

The Municipality of Greenstone thanks all residents and visitors for their cooperation in helping reduce the risk of wildland fires and protect our communities.
