The Municipality of Greenstone offers four branches within the community. We offer a diverse collection of literature, activities, programs, and other online resources for you to enrich your life.

The Beardmore Branch is open on:

  • Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Beardmore Branch is located at 285 Main Street in Beardmore.

The Geraldton Branch, known as the Elsie Dugard Centennial Public Library, is open on:

  • Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Geraldton Branch is located at 405 Second Street West in Geraldton

The Longlac Branch is open on:

  • Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Longlac Branch is located at 110 Kenogami Road in Longlac.

The Nakina Branch, known as the Hellen Mackie Memorial Library, is open on:

  • Monday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Nakina Branch is located at 216 North Avenue in Nakina. This library also operates as the School Library for all school boards.

About the Greenstone Public Library

The Greenstone Public Library is a hub of information and activity for everyone to enjoy including books, a variety of programs, and public computers with free internet. Public meeting rooms are also available at the Longlac and Geraldton Branches. Our library is also the cultural centre for the community.

Library Board

Greenstone Public Libraries are run by a Volunteer Library Board of six members, consisting of two members of Council and upto four citizens who have been appointed by Council in accordance with By-law 24-58. The Library Board meets once per month (Electronic Participation is available), with the exception of July and August. The current Chief Executive Officer is Bridget Fortier. The Board is an autonomous body operating under the Public Libraries Act, R.S.O. 1990.

To be a qualified citizen appointee to the Library Board you shall:

  • be at least eighteen (18) years old;
  • A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
  • A resident of the Municipality of Greenstone;
  • Not be an employee of the board or Municipality.

The term of the Library Board is concurrent with the term of the appointing Council which will end on November 14, 2026.

Our mission is to offer a welcoming and supportive environment, where we are committed to ensuring individuals of all ages are provided with impartial and inclusive access to a wide range of information resources, programs, equipment, and services in order to encourage literacy and lifelong learning and to support educational, cultural, and recreational activities and the diverse needs within Greenstone.
