COVID-19 UPDATE: May 14, 2020 - Municipal Facilities, Services and Program Closures & Important Information

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to implement measures with the health and safety of all residents in mind.  Please remember that this is a fluid situation and updates will be provided as they become available. 

The reopening of offices and the reinstatement of services and programming will be guided by the regulations set forth by the Provincial and Federal Governments.

With the upcoming holiday weekend please be advised that social distancing rules remain in effect.  In addition, the emergency order enacted by the Province of Ontario prohibiting organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people is also still in effect.

Campgrounds

Today, the Ontario government announced that "Private parks and campgrounds may open to enable preparation for the season and to allow access for trailers and recreational vehicles whose owners have a full season contract."  Please be advised that all Municipal campgrounds will not be open for May long weekend. This includes MacLeod Provincial Park, Poplar Lodge Park, Riverview Campground and Cordingley Lake Campground.  

Crown Land Camping

Due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), recreational camping is banned on Crown land until further notice.

Boat Launches

Municipal boat launches not located within a campground remain open for use.  Social distancing rules remain in place at all times. 

High Hill Harbour

High Hill Harbour remains closed for Victoria Day weekend.  The Municipality is preparing for the opening and an announcement regarding the opening is forthcoming.

Provincial Fire Ban

UPDATE FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2020 

The Province has announced a lifting of the Fire Ban as of 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

In order to ensure public safety and well-being during the COVID-19 outbreak, Ontario has implemented a Restricted Fire Zone for the entire fire region (map) of the province effective April 3rd at 12:01 am.  This Fire Ban remains in effect for Victoria Day weekend.  

Fishing

While fishing is permitted as per Provincial Regulations social distancing rules must be adhered to at all times.  

Emergency Orders Enforcement

On March 17, 2020, the Provincial government declared a provincial emergency due to COVID-19. Since this declaration, several Emergency Orders have been made to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure that essential services continue to be provided and Ontarians are supported. The Provincial government has now enabled Municipal By-Law Enforcement Officers to enforce these orders along with Police. The Municipality of Greenstone’s By-Law Officer will be travelling throughout Greenstone to provide educational messaging or warnings to businesses and members of the public who are not compliant with these Emergency Orders. Should compliance not be obtained, the By-Law Enforcement Officer has the authority to issue tickets.
