Animal Control

The Animal Control Officer (ACO) responds to dog complaints and carries out regular patrols throughout Greenstone.  The Animal Control Officer is supervised by the Director of Protective & Planning Services.  The Municipality of Greenstone operates and maintains one dog pound located in the Geraldton Ward.

Dog Licensing

Any resident of the Municipality of Greenstone that owns a dog needs to be aware of the by-laws that are in place. To learn more about the Municipality of Greenstone’s animal-related by-laws, please contact the Director of Protective and Planning Services. Dog tags must be purchased annually and are valid from January 1 – December 31.

 

As per the General Fees and Charges By-Law 19-13 - Schedule K, the following annual fees apply:

 Unaltered Dog                                           $25.88                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Spayed or Neutered Dog                          $10.35                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           For each unaltered dog in excess of 2      $51.77                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         For each spayed/neutered dog in excess of two $10.35                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Replacement dog tags for lost tags must be purchased at a rate of $5.18

 Senior citizens will receive a 50% discount off regular fees.

The deadline to register your dog(s) annually to avoid a late penalty is February 15th, or the first business day thereafter.  A surcharge of $5.18 will apply to all licenses purchased after the deadline.

Failure to register your dog for the current year will result in a penalty. It is the owner’s responsibility to notify the municipality if a dog has acquired a new owner, or if the dog is deceased. For violation penalties, please refer to the by-law.
