With the beautiful weather upon us, the lifeguards took this opportunity to train at the lake.  On June 24, 2009 the lifeguards went out to the waterfront to practice their skills.  With many people watching from the sidelines, the lifeguards swam laps and practiced boarding spinal victims.  Waterfront training challenges the lifeguards in different ways then pool training.  Waves make a big difference in how you should deal with a rescue situation.  Swimming through the waves to retrieve a victim is hard, but putting a spinal victim on to a spine board requires special procedures and is much harder.  We hope to have the nice weather that will give us the opportunity to continue with our waterfront training.
