THAT Mayor Beaulieu, on behalf of Council, proclaim the Week of May 22 to May 27, 2012 as SPRING CLEAN-UP WEEK IN GREENSTONE and encourage the citizens of Greenstone to take pride in their Municipality, and help keep their community clean.
Spring Cleanup for 2012 is scheduled as follows:
Collection Schedule: Urban Areas: May 22 to May 25, 2011
Rural Areas: May 25, 2011
Collected litter can be disposed of via the regular weekly curbside collection provided by the Public Works Department. Arrangements to pick up larger items can be made by notifying the Public Services Department at 807-854-1100, or any Ward Office, in advance of Spring Clean-Up Week.
The Municipality has entered into an agreement with the Ontario Electronic Stewardship Program. Residents can now recycle Electronic Waste (e-waste) by bringing eligible items to the Geraldton Ward and Longlac Ward Sites during operating hours, or the Public Works Yard in the Beardmore Ward and Nakina Ward. Please do not place e-waste at curb-side with household garbage. Acceptable Products include: desktop computers, portable computers, computer peripherals, printers, monitors, televisions, telephones, cell phones, pagers, audio & video players, cameras, equalizers, amplifiers, radios, receivers, speakers, tuners, turntables, video players/projectors, video recorders, and personal hand held computers.
Visit www.recycleyourelectronics.ca for more information on Acceptable Waste.
Accepted Items
All furnishings, mattresses, box springs, carpeting, large appliances (refrigerators*, freezers*, air conditioners*, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwasher, domestic hot water heaters), bicycles, swing sets, lawnmowers, snow blowers, lawn furniture, BBQ’s. Yard waste is to be bagged. Wooden boxes, crates, branches and yard trimmings shall be securely tied in bundles not exceeding 3 feet, 6 inches or 24 inches in diameter and not weighing more than 50 pounds.
Public Services will collect refrigeration appliances provided there is a tag confirming that the Freon has been removed or a tag is purchased at any Municipal Ward Office and placed on the appliance.
*Refrigeration appliances which contain Freon are required by the Provincial law to be checked by a certified technician and verified as having had the Freon removed prior to disposal. This is to prevent the escape of CFC’s into the environment.
Scrap tires are accepted at the Beardmore, Geraldton, Longlac and Nakina landfill sites. Tipping fees for the disposal of scrap tires do not apply for residents, under the Ontario Tire Stewardship Program.
