Reuse and Recycle your Plastic Bags Program

   Minimize

The Municipality of Greenstone in partnership with the Environment and Plastics Industry Council (EPIC) is implementing a REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE YOUR PLASTIC BAGS PROGRAM throughout Greenstone.

The purpose of the program is to educate and encourage the residents of Greenstone to recycle their plastic shopping bags and to switch to reusable bags or bins. Plastic shopping bags are a valuable resource that can be reused many times and recycled into a myriad of products from new plastic bags to plastic wood for decking, park benches and even drainage pipes.

Currently, Daneff’s Food Market (supported by McDonalds Consolidated) offers at-store recycling of bags in Geraldton. Customers can return the bags to the grocer and place them in a drop-off bin. The bags are then shipped to a major centre for processing into new products. (Recycled bags are not reused by the merchant.)
