The Greenstone Cup kicked off on Saturday night with game 1 of a 7 game series involving students from GCHS, Ecole Secondaire Chateau-Jeunesse, and Eagle Nest. The action was fast and furious in the early going with both teams trading great chances. Greenstone's finest opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Brandon Byerley from Shawn Duranceau and Dylan Gosselin-Archer. Dillon Megan replied quickly for the Greenstone Storm on a goal assisted by Jacob Nolan.
The storm broke out in the second period with 5 unanswered goals. Greenstone's Finest, under the direction of Mr. Andy McFarlane and his lucky pink tie, had no answer for the Storms top trio of Dillon Megan, Jacob Nolan, and Jordan Byerley who combined for a total of 12 points in the game.
The final score was a deceiving 8-2 win for the storm. The game was much closer than the score indicates. Dalton O'Quinn backstopped the Storm to the game one victory but needed some help from a goaltenders best friend. The Finest attempting a comeback in the third period hit the post twice and the crossbar on another two occasions.
McFarlane promised a much different team in Game Two. The Storm coach Mr. Time Griffins only comment to Coach McFarlane after the game was "Lose the tie".

Out-worked... out-hit... out-shot... out-played... and most importantly, out-coached. Mr. Griffin’s slumping storm was out-matched last night in Game Two of the Greenstone Cup.
Mr. McFarlane’s team , the “Greenstone’s Finest” were just that, racking up 7 goals over 35 shots in a fast paces, hard hitting battle that ended with Jacob Kurish, Robin Belzile, Tyler Megan, Brandon Byerley, Dylan Duranceau and Dylan Gosselin-Archer all scoring a goal and an assist in a 7-3 route.
It was obvious that the storm was in tough on this night. After 7 minutes Mr. Griffin’s crew were down 3 goals, and he was seen behind the bench scrambling for a pen and his notepad. Scribbling out plans, rewriting his power play and planning new defensive strategies didn’t help him much. Later on during the game, it was reported that Mr. Griffin had stolen Mac’s clipboard and was copying the winning strategies into his playbook. Around here, I think we call that plagiarism.
In a brief post game interview, Mr. McFarlane stated that his boys finally showed up and took it to the storm! He said that Sammy, (as Mr. Carr now calls him) “boom boom” Kashkeesh really came out to play and showed him some true “hockey played grit”, and that he was extremely pleased with the offense that came from everyone on his team. Mr. McFarlane also suggested that Mr. Griffin re-evaluate his team’s name. Instead of the “Greenstone Storm”, maybe the “Drizzle” would be a better fit?
