Greenstone FireSmart Committee:
This is the first municipal level FireSmart Committee in Northwestern Ontario and will provide a framework for other communities to follow.
The role of the committee is to:
-
-
demonstrate steps to limit the risk and reduce the damages caused by wildfire
-
promote that being a FireSmart community will increase the level of safety from wildfire
-
assist other communities in becoming a FireSmart Community
Mission Statement:
The committee is dedicated to working strategically with the communities in identifying and rectifying potential wildfire hazards. By delivering wildfire information and technical support and through the development of new initiatives and partnerships, the committee will assist the communities in taking a proactive approach towards the threat of wildfires.
The committee is currently seeking individuals to represent the following:
-
Remote and Road-Based Tourist Outfitters - north, east, west, central areas of the Greenstone Region
-
Rural Subdivisions - north, east, west, central areas of the Greenstone Region
Are you short on available time to belong to a committee, there are only 2 meetings per year. One meeting is held before the fire season starts and one after the fire season has ended. The fire season is April 1st through to October 31st.
