PETS IN OUR COMMUNITY - YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

Pets are an important part of our community - please help us keep Greenstone a safe, clean and friendly place to live through responsible pet ownership.

The Animal Control Officer of the Municipality of Greenstone is mandated to enforce the animal-related by-laws of our community to ensure that we live in a safe and healthy environment, and that people and animals live together in harmony.

We appreciate that most pet owners in Greenstone do comply with the by-laws laid out by the Municipality.  But we also understand that some pet owners are not aware of the many responsibilites required of them as pet owners.

DID YOU KNOW THAT when you exercise your dog off your property, your pet must be kept on a leash or similar apparatus.  You must have full control of your pet at all times.

Legally dogs and other animals are not permitted to soil Municipal property; you have to clean it up!

DID YOU KNOW THAT failure to lease and/or failure to clean up after your dog may result in a ticket of up to $50.00, or upon conviction in a court of law, a fine of up to $1,000.00.

When you walk you dog, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO keep it leased, carry a disposable plastic "poop" bag and promptly clean up after your dog.  Carry some extra bags, and if you see others walking their pets without a bag, offer them a bag so that they too can clean up after their pet.

Failure to clean up after dogs is the most common complaint about pets in Greenstone.

Responsible pet owners have their dogs and cats spayed and neutered.

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF GREENSTONE

The Animal Control Officer for the Municipality of Greenstone is appointed by By-law to enforce the provisions of the Animal Control By-law of the Municipality.
