Following two terms on Council, Jay has been successfully re-elected for a third consecutive term in the 2010 municipal election. Jay first ran as Nakina Ward councillor in 2003 and was acclaimed again in 2006.

Jay is currently serving as the Municipal rep on The Thunder District Board of Health, NOSTA and the lisason with the Kenogamisis Golf Club. Jay is currently chairing and working with Councillor Jantunen as members of the Tourism Steering committee. Jay has served on public services, social services committees, the Greenstone Recruitment and Retention Team, and council’s liason with the Kenogamisis Golf Club executive.  He concluded a term on the Board of the North of Superior Tourism Association (NOSTA) as the municipal representative where he was also a member of the NOSTA executive serving as V.P. of Product Development. Councillor Daiter was active professionally by writing and delivering professional learning courses through the Ontario College of Teachers, Confederation College, and Lakehead University.

An advocate of regular communication and healthy debate, his ward newsletter is mailed to all residents of the Nakina Ward and is on the Greenstone Community Portal. In addition to his Blog, Jay also maintains a Facebook site entitled, "Greenstone Matterswhich invites your comments, ideas, and especially suggestions that will focus on "Growing Greenstone."

Jay and his wife Holly have resided in Nakina since 1975. They have two grown children, son Joshua, and daughter Amy, who live in Barrie and Parry Sound respectively. Their granddaughters, Jordynn (8), Addyson (2), and Naomi (2), continue to bring delight to the family. Jay’s other interests include spending as much quality relaxation time as he can outdoors, hunting, golfing, fishing, and traveling.
