On January 1, 2001, by Order of the Commission made under the Municipal Act RSO 1990 c.M.45, the former Town of Geraldton, the former Town of Longlac, the former Township of Beardmore and the former Township of Nakina were amalgamated as a town under the name of the Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone.
As a corporation, the Municipality of Greenstone is vested with powers provided in the Municipal Act, and various other statutes and regulations which allow it to provide services to residents within a specific geographic area. These powers are exercised on behalf of its residents by an elected Council.
