A Geological Curiosity
Found on the east side of Highway 11, approximately 3.9 kilometers (2.3 miles) north of the entrance of what was once designated as Lake Nipigon Provincial Park, this rock out crop features the unique curiosity of two rock types on top of one another.
The top layer is a 1.3 billion year old sandstone deposit from the Pass Lake Formation that is overlaying a 2.7 billion year old Precambrian metasedimentary rock underneath.
